“Jaden Sekrè” Mural

This mural is a product of the vision and patronage of our beloved Nadege Green, the artistic expressions of Nadler Nate Peti-Dieu, and my own creative vision.

Jarden Sekrè is a fusion of South Florida’s local culture and Haitian (Ayisyen) culture. When I, Ricardo Diéguez, was asked to create an image in the style of classical Haitian art, I knew it had to reflect my unique artistic voice. This required deep study of Haitian art, connecting with the lives of the people involved, listening to the ancestors, and ultimately expressing my visions in a sort of creative patchwork.

This mural is the manifestation of that patchwork—a story within a story. To fully appreciate it, we must first understand the background.

Our Patron (and Matron), Nadege Green, is an inspirational journalist, historian, Black Power queen, matriarch, supporter of the arts, exalted community member, and above all, a beautiful person inside and out. I am deeply grateful for her support and honored to have been chosen to help create this mural.

Special thanks also go to the great artist Nate Peti-Dieu, who has always been supportive, shown an exceptional work ethic, displayed immense talent, and been attentive to detail. Above all, Nate is a loving part of my extended family.

I am Ricardo Diéguez, a Cuban-American artist and lover of our people. I pray that divinity continues to bless me so I can create art that inspires our community to reach its highest potential. I also pray that I may live in prosperity through my art. AsheO.

To truly understand this artwork, it’s essential to recognize that this piece wouldn’t have manifested in this way without the contributions of everyone involved. This mural is an expression of the story of our local community and our extended cultural ancestors.
